  • The amphibious assaults on Fort Fisher during the Civil War are excellent case studies for the modern era. From making decisions under extreme uncertainty, to managing conflict with peers, to deciding when to persevere, pivot, or pull out when the plan isn't working. Business leaders and university students/faculty alike can extract the timeless lessons of history.

  • One of the biggest challenges organizations face is rapidly scaling under pressure. In World War II, Wilmington shipyard planners had the same challenge but under wartime pressure. Learn how they did it from turning an empty plot of ground prior to February 1941 to delivering a ship every three days — and from zero to 21,000 workers — in almost 24 months.

  • Centered at Moores Creek where revolutionary Americans defeated a British loyalist army. Learn how the successful campaigns in Wilmington supported General George Washington and his regulars in ultimately defeating the British.

  • Receive electronic welcome packet and read-ahead materials.

  • Meet at a nearby cafe for coffee and a light breakfast. Field Council staff will introduce themselves and conduct a short icebreaker activity. We will then drive to Fort Fisher. Upon arrival we will get settled in the event spaces and then begin.

  • Lunch is catered and will last for one hour.

  • The event will resume after lunch and last until four o’clock. Clients will then have an hour to wander the museum grounds before assembling outside for departure.

  • Clients will leave with Field Council staff to a nearby restaurant to conclude the pilot.

  • Clients will receive an email inquiring how they applied their lessons to their current work.
